Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox: 6 (Artemis Fowl)

Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox: 6 (Artemis Fowl)

I just finished reading Artemis Fowl and The Time Paradox and I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed it. It's difficult to sustain a series without it getting old and repetitive, but I think Colfer has managed it. Maybe it's because it's been a while since the last in the series came out, I don't know, but I loved it. I was gripped by the action while still learning new things about the characters and having a laugh along the way as well. Bring on the next one!

Jolly Phonics Workbooks: Books 1-7 (Jolly Phonics: workbook)

Jolly Phonics Workbooks: Books 1-7 (Jolly Phonics: workbook)

I loved letterland and so did my daughter and I taught her the letters using their reading cards and CD (both of which I highly recommed). However, now that my daughter has started Reception I was looking for something else to stimulate her writing as well as her reading, which is coming along very nicely. After reading such positive comments on this Jolly Phonics product, I bought it and it just so happens that it is the same method they are using at her school to teach them the letter. She loves it as she recognises it all. A good way to complement at home, what she's learning at school. Also, it's a great way to get her to practice her writing and do it in short periods of time, broken up by the colouring, which she also enjoys. I also love the way they aid you into what to teach your children when, to gradually build up their reading more and more. A great buy!

T is for Trespass

T is for Trespass

I came late to Sue Grafton and was so hooked on these marvellous books, I read all of them up to S is for Silence over a period of about a year. It was a long wait until T is for Trespass but the book was well worth the wait. The author gives us economical writing, good plots, a cast of characters to love, what more could a reader want. Roll on U is for ....? but what will we read when she finishes Z, I shall feel as if I've lost a friend in Kinsey Millhone.

How to Draw Pokemon (How to Draw)

How to Draw Pokemon (How to Draw)

Although the paper quality is not the best (comparable to those cheap colouring in books you can get), the outer covers are strong and bright but it's the content that makes it great value for money.

My six year old has spent ages with this book drawing and perfecting his pokemon favourites. Step by step instructions along with simple diagrams, even the most difficult figures are a cinch once you know how. 17 characters to draw with hints and tips for each one.

This is cheaper than most kids magazines and worth every penny in terms of how much use it's had.

Entirely agree with KT (Gloucestershire): this book was very disappointing. Cornelia Funke is a very good writer but this time she did a bad job. The book is dark and hopeless. At least out of respect for the reader who went through 700 pages or more (German edition), she could have imagined a more "rounded" end to the story. There is a lot of blood spilling, killing, but all this has no counterpart in loving relationships or in positive qualities. All the horrible parts are described in great detail, but there are very few words of hope or love. It is a dark book and I would definitely NOT recommend it.
